Ingredients

Pasta and Main Ingredients
  • 12 ounces penne pasta Can use any preferred pasta shape.
  • 1 pound Italian sausage Chicken, turkey, or any preferred sausage can be used.
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
Sauce and Seasoning
  • 1 cup heavy cream For a lighter version, substitute with half-and-half or coconut milk.
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning Adjust based on spice preference.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
  • Fresh parsley Fresh parsley, for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather your ingredients and chop the onion, mince the garlic, and slice the sausage into bite-sized pieces.
Cooking
  1. In a large pot over medium heat, add the sausage. Cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 5–7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the pot and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add the chopped onion and garlic. Cook until the onions are translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Return the sausage to the pot. Add the penne pasta, chicken broth, and Cajun seasoning. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 12 minutes, or until the pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the heavy cream and shredded cheese. Mix until everything is well combined and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy your delicious bowl of creamy goodness!

Notes

For a spicier dish, consider adding diced jalapeños or more Cajun seasoning. To sneak in some veggies, add bell peppers, spinach, or zucchini. Be cautious not to overcook the pasta while simmering; al dente pasta holds up better in creamy dishes. For storing leftovers, keep them in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
