Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For the base of the biscuits.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder For leavening.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt To enhance flavor.
Fat and Liquid
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Cold butter helps create flaky layers.
  • 3/4 cup whole milk Keep it cold to ensure flakiness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring until just combined. Be cautious not to overmix.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it just a few times to bring it together. Pat it out into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.
  6. Use a round cutter or glass to cut out biscuits, rerolling scraps as necessary.
Baking
  1. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake for 12-15 minutes until they’re golden brown.
  2. Let them cool slightly, then serve warm with butter or your favorite topping.

Notes

Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, warm them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes. For longer storage, freeze the biscuits separated by parchment paper.
