Ingredients

For the bagels
  • 1.5 cups self-rising flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
For toppings
  • sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning, or coarse salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour, salt, and Greek yogurt. Use a spoon or your hands to mix until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it gently for about 1-2 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Divide your dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the middle to form a bagel shape. Stretch the hole a bit to make sure it stays open during baking.
  5. Place the shaped bagels onto the prepared baking sheet. If desired, brush them with an egg wash (beaten egg) and sprinkle your favorite toppings on top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.
  2. Allow cooling on a wire rack before enjoying them fresh. They are fabulous toasted!

Notes

Don't overmix the dough to keep your bagels light and fluffy. If you don't have self-rising flour, you can combine all-purpose flour with baking powder and salt. Feel free to experiment with flavors by adding spices, herbs, or cheese.
