Preparation
- Start by placing the chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker. If you're using the stovetop, heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the chicken.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, ranch dressing mix, and chicken broth. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Pour the cream cheese mixture over the chicken in the slow cooker. If using the skillet, pour the mixture over the chicken and stir to combine.
Cooking
- If using a slow cooker, cover and cook on low for about 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours. For the stovetop, cover and simmer for about 20-30 minutes, ensuring the chicken is fully cooked.
- About 15 minutes before serving, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and gooey.
Serving
- Once everything is cooked through and the cheese is melted, serve hot. Garnish with chopped green onions or bacon bits if desired.
Notes
For variations, chicken thighs can be used as a substitution. Adjust cooking time slightly for dark meat. If desired, spice it up with red pepper flakes or jalapeños. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat with a splash of chicken broth.
