  • 6 cups tart apples, peeled and sliced Granny Smith works great!
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Helps prevent apples from browning.
For the Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Make sure the apples are well-coated.
Layering
  1. Grease your slow cooker with cooking spray and layer the coated apples evenly at the bottom.
Make the Topping
  1. In a separate bowl, mix together rolled oats, flour, melted butter, and salt. Sprinkle this mixture generously over the apple layer.
Cooking
  1. Cover your slow cooker and set it on low for about 4 to 5 hours, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Serving
  1. Once cooked, let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Notes

For ideal results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for up to three months.
