Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 3 medium-sized apples, preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled and sliced Choose a tart variety for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature eggs work best.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Ground for best flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg Ground nutmeg adds warmth.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • a pinch salt
  • ½ cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional) For added crunch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with a tablespoon of sugar and set them aside to release their juices.
Mixing the Batter
  1. In another bowl, beat the eggs and the remaining sugar together until fluffy.
  2. Gradually fold in the melted butter, and then gently mix in the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until just combined.
  3. Gently fold the apples into the batter until evenly distributed.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth out the top.
  2. Bake in your preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  2. Serve warm or at room temperature, and enjoy!

Notes

For a delicious twist, serve with fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Can also be drizzled with caramel sauce.
