Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons of salt, and 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast. Stir them together until well mixed.
- Gradually pour in 1 ½ cups of warm water, using a wooden spoon or your hands to combine all the ingredients. The dough should be slightly sticky.
- Once combined, transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-10 minutes until smooth. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle in more flour as needed.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- After rising, punch down the dough gently to release the air. Divide it into two equal portions and shape each into a ball. Let them rest for another 10-20 minutes before rolling out.
- While your dough rests, preheat your oven to the highest setting, usually around 475°F (or 500°F if your oven allows).
- Roll out your dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Add your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings!
- Transfer your pizza to a baking sheet or pizza stone and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and bubbly. Enjoy your homemade artisan pizza!
Notes
For a chewier texture, consider using bread flour instead of all-purpose flour. Letting the dough rise slowly in the refrigerator overnight improves flavor.
